A 23-year-old Italian man has died after being bitten by a violin spider.
The man was bitten on the leg while gardening, and died in hospital on Saturday 17th August.
This is the second death from a violin spider bite in Italy this summer. In July, a 52-year-old police officer died after being bitten by a violin spider while on vacation in Sicily.
Violin spiders are found in the Mediterranean region, and their bites are known to cause severe pain, swelling, and tissue damage.
Here are some tips to avoid being bitten by a violin spider:
- Be aware of the areas where violin spiders are found.
- Wear long pants and sleeves when working in the garden or other areas where violin spiders may be present.
- Inspect your clothing and shoes for violin spiders before putting them on.
- If you are bitten by a violin spider, seek medical attention immediately.
Violin spiders are not typically aggressive, but they may bite if they are disturbed. If you see a violin spider, do not try to handle it. Instead, move away slowly and cautiously.
If you are bitten by a violin spider, the first thing you should do is wash the bite area with soap and water. Then, apply a cold compress to the bite area to reduce pain and swelling. If the bite is painful or swollen, you should seek medical attention.
Violin spider bites can be serious, but they are not typically fatal. However, it is important to seek medical attention if you are bitten by a violin spider to rule out any potential complications.
